The Foundation was established as a living memorial to two children, Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball, who were killed by an IRA bomb in Warrington in 1993. Tim’s parents Colin, and Wendy created the charity to provide peaceful alternatives to the use of violence in conflict situations.

The charity works across the UK and internationally in preventing, resolving and responding to extreme conflict. Since 1995, the Foundation’s work has evolved to keep pace with contemporary challenges.

Our History 1 / 5
On March 20th, 1993, the day before Mothering Sunday, the Irish Republican Army (IRA) exploded two bombs without warning in Warrington's town centre
Our History 2 / 5
The Bombs were planted in bins on Bridge St, the town's main shopping area. Three year old Johnathan Ball died at the scene of the bombing and five days later, 12 year old Tim Parry lost his life as a result of his fatal head injuries. 54 other people were injured.
Our History 3 / 5
The Incident shocked the nation and gained world wide publicity. The men who planted the bombs were never caught.
Our History 4 / 5
After the bombing,Tim's parents Colin and Wendy, were invited to make a ‘special’ BBC Panorama programme, which took them to Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Boston in the USA.
Our History 5 / 5
Inspired by what they had seen, Colin and Wendy set up their own charity (the Foundation) in 1995, and in 1996, they organised their first youth exchange programme, entitled “the Tim Parry Scholarship” for 24 young people from Belfast, Dublin and Warrington, but unlike Belfast and Dublin, there was no venue in Warrington to accommodate the Scholarship.

A Living Memorial 1 / 3
Colin and Wendy set about raising a significant capital sum, and with help from many organisations and individuals, they commissioned a £3.3m building, to be known as “The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Centre”, which was opened on March 20th, 2000, the 7th anniversary of the bombing
A Living Memorial 2 / 3
The Peace Centre is a multi-purpose building with incredible facilities, including a games area, sports hall, residential quarters, dining room, conference facilities and offices. However, after the Peace Centre’s residential facilities were closed in 2021 due to the Covid Epidemic, we undertook a review of the Foundation’s current and future use of the Centre.
A living Memorial 3 / 3
This review has led to an agreement to sell the Peace Centre to Warrington Town Council for it to be used as a 6th Form College for young people with special educational needs. The Foundation will, however, continue to work from the Peace Centre.
